whats going on

a lot. thats whats going on. some new things: i am now officially 'commissioned' as a missionary at my church, along with abby (also with wycliffe bible translators). there was a special church service for us, and we got to see how supportive our church family is... very. a lot more than i had expected. but its getting harder already. i had thought that asking for financial support would be one of the hardest things to do, but now im finding that accepting it 'gracefully' is even harder. that means taking what is offered without feeling guilty or afraid-that i might put everything they've sacrificed for me to waste by failing. whats frustrating is that even when amazing things happen to help me along to what it is that i think God wants for me, i still question Him and need more convincing. but im working through it with prayer and His help.

i have about 4 weeks left at work. im quitting june 17th and leaving the next day for 2 weeks. i will be in orlando for wycliffe's 'training camp' (orientation) after which i will finally be a full member/employee. abby will be going too, so i will know at least one person. i come back in time to go to west virginia for the 4th of july- straight from the airport. then we go from wv to indiana. it will be the week of tara's wedding and we'll help set up and prepare, though im not quite sure what that involves. i will hopefully have my bridesmaid dress in time for that. we had to order it and it will take at least 6 weeks, which puts up 2 weeks before the wedding. whew.

after the wedding i'll be home for about 5 days. i'll pack up whatever vehicle i decide to take to dallas (i.e. the one with cheapest insurance) and drive to dallas with my mom and leah. im glad they are going with me. a two day drive by oneself doesnt sound very fun. and it will be good to have help moving into the dorm there. i have orientation and registration for the GIAL on the 17th of july and the semester starts july 20th. then mom and leah will fly from dallas on to hawaii (where they're moving temporarily and where i will be able to go for christmas) and i'll be on my own. im excited about it and nervous, as i wont be able to actually visit the school before july. i know its small and very connected with WBT and that i'll be learning all i need to know, but still.

im sure there is more thats going on but i'll save it for another day.

moovies

i enjoyed a few movies lately and i think i'll share.

i saw baron von munchhausen, done by one of the monty python guys. it was quite strange but entertaining and as sarah pointed out, its big fish. well, not actually but the plot/idea behind the movie was the same as big fish only it was made many years earlier. i had never heard of this movie but i really liked it.

another movie that i wasnt expecting to like as much as i did was lemony snicket's a series of unfortunate events. i read the first 2 books to see what all the hype was about, and i did enjoy them mostly. but i havent had time to read up to the 20th book or whatever they are up to now. anyway, the movie portrays the first 3 books very well. the kid's acting was well done and jim carey wasnt too zany (not to say he wasnt annoying). the whole atmosphere of the movie was very cool.

and then what will be one of my favorite movies of all time, i think: kung fu hustle. its funny because i didnt even know this movie was out or anything about it until a friend said 'lets go see it'. she described it and i wasnt too sure but then said it was made by the guy who did shaolin soccer and i was in =) chinese gangsters dancing around with axes, too funny. it was pretty ridiculous at parts but i liked it anyway.

now for two movies that i want to see, but of which im wary: stars wars ep 3 and hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. i have to see the last star wars just to see it, and ive heard some good things about it, but considering the other two, im not getting my hopes up. and hitchhikers, ive heard good and bad about it. i'll just have to see for myself.
